FALL BALL TIMES AND DATES / FINAL REGISTRATION REMINDER

Last Call for Fall Ball Registration – REGISTRATION CLOSES SATURDAY AUGUST 31

(note: in order to ensure your t-shirt is here by Sept 7 registration needs to be complete by Thursday Aug 29 midnight. Those registering after this date will still get their jersey but will be arriving by Sept 14)

Fall Ball will start up Sept 4 and run for 6 weeks until October 12 at Fairfield Island

FALL BALL TIME SLOTS:

Mosquito (Players born 2009/2010) – MON / WED from 5:30 – 7:30 and SAT – Game times TBA
START DAY: Sept 4

Pee Wee (Players born 2007/2008) – TUE / THUR from 5:30-7:30 and SAT – Game times TBA
START DAY: Sept 5

Bantam (Players Born 2005/2006) – MON / WED from 5:30-7:30 and SAT – Game times TBA
START DAY: Sept 4

Midget (Players born 2002-2004) – TUE / THUR from 6-8 and SAT – Game times TBA
START DAY: Sept 5

All players will receive a dry fit jersey and a hat. Players are to bring a helmet, glove and jock/jill as well as a bat if they have one.

For those who have registered see you on your respective start date. If you haven’t registered please do so ASAP.

Just a reminder to all CMBA members about our upcoming 2019 Fall Ball Program commencing Saturday, September 7th, 2019 through Saturday, October 12th, 2019 at Fairfield Park. The Fall Ball program will consist of two practices a week and games on Saturdays for the following divisions:

Mosquito (birth years 2009 / 2010) $150 per player
Pee Wee (birth years 2007 / 2008) $150 per player
Bantam (birth years 2005 / 2006) $175 per player
Midget (birth years 2002 – 2004) $175 per player

Practice times (2 per week per division) will be announced shortly.

Each registered player will be outfitted with a CMBA Fall Ball t-shirt and hat.

Bantam & Midget age players may be selected to participate in tournaments. Exhibition games with other travel fall ball teams is also anticipated.

If anyone is interested in coaching or helping out, please contact Jason Emery at coachjay55@outlook.com.

CBMA is proud to announce the return of Scott Pankratz, Colin Currie and Max Chadsey as Fall Ball Coaches for Midget and Bantam. Scott will have the assistance of Colin in Midget, when he is not on the field with the Bantams and Max will be working with the pitchers in both divisions.Fall Ball is the best opportunity to showcase your talents to the coaches on the diamonds for the upcoming 2020 season. Registration is open for Mosquito to Midget – be sure to enroll as the association is looking to order enough hats and shirts to ensure a timely delivery.. Mosquito and Peewee divisions are looking for volunteer coaches to assist in running another successful fall season. This is a great opportunity for Sr. Tadpole and Mosquito coaches moving up to Mosquito and Peewee to ask questions, get exposed and be prepared for the 2020 Spring Season.

EQUIPMENT RETURNS

Message for all coaches. All outstanding equipment bags can be returned on Monday June 17th. I will be at Fairfield from 5:30-7:30.
Exceptions to this will be single season and summer ball coaches. Those bags will be returned in August so I can do an accurate count of what I have and will need to order for next season. Fall ball bags will be handed out after that.
All coaches that did return bags this past Saturday, thank you for getting them back to me. I did find a few gloves so if you, or a player from your team is missing one please contact me as I may have it.

WRAP UP DAY SATURDAY JUNE 15 – DETAILS BELOW:

Our Final Wrap up day for our spring season is coming up fast so please read the details below for your division.

Blast ball – 9am-10am FF field B
Rally Cap – 10am -11am FF field B
Jr Tadpole – 10am -12pm FF field C
Sr Tadpole – 11:30-12:30 FF Field B
Mosquito – Final game 9am – 11:30 FF Field A

Skills competition for all teams and players* 12-1pm FF Field A
Uniform return 1pm-2pm safety village

All players will get a ticket for a hot dog, chips and drink following their event time. You will receive your team photos at the end of your events as well.

1ST EVER - GIRLS RESIDENTIAL BASEBALL CAMP

IT’S OFFICIAL – The Big League Experience will be running an all inclusive Girls camp in the Beautiful sunny Okanagan from July 28 – August 2. Since 1960 the boys have had the opportunity to take part in what many considered one of the best developmental Baseball Camps in North America. A residential baseball camp in the Beautiful Sunny South Okanagan (Oliver, B.C.), and the opportunity to work with some of the best coaches the game has to offer. It’s now time the girls take over the fields for a week and become part of the BLEtradition.

The BLE has a great reputation with baseball opportunities and development and is excited to announce its inaugural event for the girls. Baseball BC’s 14U Provincial Team coach, Stacy Fournier, who will Head up the Elite Instructional team that will include National team Players/Coaches. Along with Stacy’s staff will be former Big Leaguer & World Series Champion Albie Lopez, Provincial Manager of Female Baseball & recent Team Canada coach Scott Mackenzie and MLB Scout & former Canadian Olympic team coach Marty Lehn. All players that participate in Baseball BC’s Provincial Selects tryout July 9-11 will be offered a discount to BLE’s Residential Camp. We are excited about playing a role in the development of the girls game and look forward to an experience that will truly be “Big League”.

CMBA is looking for interested players to enter a team entirely comprised of female athletes in a All Girls Jamboree hosted by Baseball BC June 22nd at Whalley Athletic Park in Surrey. Female athletes ages 7-12 are able to sign up for this Jamboree.

The cost of this Jamboree is FREE and uniform will be provided.

There will not be try outs for this. Just sign up and play.

Reminder:
Chilliwack Minor Baseball Association is proud to announce the 2nd annual CMBA Girls Only Baseball Night. We are excited to partner with Baseball BC in celebrating our female athletes.
We are looking to grow the game of baseball and encourage Long Term Athlete Development, Passion, Self Esteem and Baseball Skills by providing our female athletes with a GIRLS ONLY NIGHT. This night is open to all girls from Junior tadpole and older.

Join CMBA and Baseball BC’s finest female athletes and coaches on Friday May 24th at Fairfield Island Ball Park Field A from 630-8pm in a night of fun baseball activities including baseball drills and mentoring by female coaches and players.

This night is at NO COST to the parents, FREE of CHARGE!!!

To sign up your daughter please email CMBA registrar Teresa Charest at teresa.charest@nbfc.com with your daughter’s name and age so we can get an idea of numbers.

In addition to Girls Night, Baseball BC will be running a Team BC identification session at the end of this event to give any girls age 11-16 the opportunity to be seen by Provincial Select Coaches. COACH SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be circulated to the board for review and if any questions raised will be
brought up at interview. Once applications are in they will be part of the public minutes.

-Applications must include the following;

Coaching qualifications; (NCCP number)
Assistant Coaches with job descriptions -if applicable or chosen at this time *We
encourage applicants to not have any of the team pre-selected due to any potential
assistant coaches or team staff. (first aid attendant, field prep guy, manager etc.)

~Try out plan that includes dates of final selection of team
~Calendar of events that includes projected practices, games and tournaments as well as
any fundraising or community dates

Each Head Coach may be interviewed in person or by telephone as part of the selection process if clarification or more information is required. Interview focus is on confirming the Head
Coach has the same philosophy as CMBA in regards to fun and development of all players.
*Each Head Coach may be interviewed in and around the half way point of the summer
season to ensure they are upholding the application that was proposed.

Applicants will be evaluated based on:
1) Application
2) Interview
3) Experience
4) Feedback received from other coaches, directors and or parents.
We encourage all applicants who are approved by the committee in theory as
acceptable coaching candidates to meet and see if they can work together in some
mutually agreed upon fashion – before the interview process

GOOD OPENING WEEKEND FOR CHILLIWACK PEEWEE AA COUGARS NAVY

Good opening weekend for The Chilliwack Peewee AA Cougars, playing in the Aldergrove Minor Baseball Ice Breaker tournament. April 5th – 7th.

The boys went 4-0 with an eventual 6-5 Win against Newton/Surrey in the final to earn the championship. Strong outings on the mound and good defensive play allowed only 10 runs against the entire weekend, while great hitting led the way scoring 29 runs over 4 games.

The boys got their feet wet on Saturday playing in the first games of the season winning both by scores or 11-2 and 9-2. Sunday would prove to be a test, facing a very good Newton/Surrey in game 3, who won the 2018 Provincial championship. However, starting Pitcher Ryan Post would give Chilliwack an edge by pitching a 3-hit, 1- run complete game, while he and his team mates put 3 on the board over 6 innings for the win.

The championship final would see a re match of game 3 with both teams finishing first and second in round robin play. Both teams where led by great pitching again, and great at bats with Chilliwack edging Newton/Surrey again this time by 1 run and a 6-5 Victory. Another great pitching start by Riley Kwak and eventual closer Alex Rezka.

Most valuable player of the game went to Seb Chalmers-Owega who drove in 2 RBI’s in the 5th that proved to be the game winning runs.

PEEWEE A SELECT EXHIBITION TEAM

CMBA is proud to extend an opportunity to Peewee A players looking for additional training as well as those players who are looking for additional preparation for the upcoming Summer Rep Try outs. This PSET program will have additional practices Sundays 5-7pm at Fairfield, I am working on exhibition games and have booked a tournament.

Please Note:
This program is open to ALL Peewee A players but the top 13 players will be chosen to compete in the exhibition games as well as the Mission hosted tournament May 17-19, 2019. (If your player is not available for this tournament, please do not compete for a roster spot.)

Evaluation session will be:
• Sunday April 7 5:00-7:00 Fairfield B Peewee Diamond
• Additional try outs may be necessary depending on participation

Uniform Pick Up Schedule – Please Read Carefully for all Instructions!

ALL Divisions from Jr tadpole up through Midget will pick up their raffles tickets or pay their fee before receiving their uniforms on their assigned pick up night.

This is for house teams NOT single season rep teams.
Uniform handout will take place at FAIRFIELD ISLAND at the safety village area.

Blast ball and Rally Cap: You will receive your shirts and hats on your first day of the season, April 6

We NO longer provide pants for the house divisions. ALL players must wear grey pants for games. Pants will be for sale from our old stock for $10 a pair and belts for $2. It is on a first come basis until I run out of sizes. Please gather as a team and arrange kids in size order outside the uniform shed. All players must come with their team at their assigned time. It is best to meet as a team about 10 min before your time slot

CMBA is proud to announce Tyson Gillies and Michael Crouse will be at the Tzeachten Turf Sports Field, Saturday, March 9th 10 – 2pm to run a development camp open to any registered player with CMBA.
The cost of this camp is $25 per player.

MOSQUITO SELECT EXHIBITION TEAM TRY OUTS

CMBA is proud to announce we will once again be running a Mosquito Select Exhibition Teams (MSET) program in spring of 2019.

The MSET program allows for players that are interested in eventually playing summer ball, to compete at a higher level during the spring season through exhibition games and extra practices.

The players will be broken up according to age (First Year 2009 & Second Year 2008) and put through a try out process to form 2 teams. A 3rd team may be added depending on how many players try out.
The try out dates are as follows:

Sunday March 3rd 330 – 430pm at the Sport Landing Center

March 10th 330 – 430pm at the Sports Landing Center

A 3rd try out may be necessary depending on numbers. TBA

Try outs will be incorporated with the usual development session at that time. Development sessions are not canceled because of try outs.

PEEWEE AA REP TRYOUTS - UPDATE

Thank-you for everyone’s hard work and time in coming out to the tryouts for the Cougars 2019 Pee Wee Rep teams.

The number of players and their talent has certainly made coaches decisions extremely difficult!!!

As the players have been told – there are two rep teams starting up now and a third rep team will be formed in July once the players have had the opportunity and challenge of participating in the Spring A-season in which they will be placed on one of 4-5 Chilliwack teams and compete against other cities such Abbotsford, Mission, Aggasiz, Aldergrove and each other. That will culminate in a playoff showdown! Chilliwack has won the A-season playoffs the last two years! Once the Spring season is done the players form the 4-5 Chilliwack teams will tryout to form 1 rep team and compete for the opportunity to play for a Provincial Championships!

To put things in perspective for everyone – this is just the third year of Chilliwack having 2 AA rep teams. Historically there would be one rep team which was mainly comprised of 2nd year players (Grade 7) and maybe 2-3 first year (Grade 6) players. The addition of a second rep team has allowed 12 more players to be able to play rep all Spring! This is fantastic for the development of our program! As you know kids develop at different times – there is a huge range in physical size as well as mental maturation in these 11-13 year olds! Some kids have hit a growth spurt or entered puberty and others won’t for maybe another 4 years. If your child does not make the AA team now please encourage them to stay with it and keep working out – their time will come if they really want it! We have had kids who have never made a rep team until Midget and now are playing College Prep!

For those players who did not try out for rep OR do not appear on this list you are asked to attend the next 2 Saturday nights (FEB 16 and 23) Peewee evaluations for placement on a Peewee A team. These will take place @ The Landing 6:15-7:15

The following 14 players have been invited back for an additional tryouts this Thursday at 5:30 -7pm at 49105 Elkview Rd Chilliwack, BC (Hall Barn): If you can not make this tryout please email COACH Jeremy at jeremymwhall@yahoo.ca

THESE MAYBE THE LAST TRYOUTS SO PLEASE ATTEND in order to give your player the best opportunity to make one of the rep teams. If you have changed your mind and do not want to continue with tryouts please let us know as well.
